Cheer Canada is soliciting applications for the Integrated Support Team (IST) Lead for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 cheerleading seasons (July 2026 – June 2028).
The successful applicant for this volunteer position will oversee the efficient and successful operation of Cheer Canada’s medical and integrated support services, reporting to the Executive Director on behalf of the Board of Directors. This role focuses on strategic oversight, policy development, and the coordination of medical volunteers to support national events and training camps.
Core Responsibilities
- IST Leadership & Oversight: Supervise all members of the Cheer Canada Integrated Support Teams. Serve as the primary communication link between the IST and Cheer Canada administration.
- Volunteer Management: Select IST members (physiotherapists, athletic therapists, etc.) and assign schedules and roles based on competencies to ensure continuity of care and minimize redundancies.
- Policy & Governance: Oversee the development and implementation of Cheer Canada’s medical policies, including Concussion Management, Return-to-Play protocols, and Safe Sport compliance.
- Emergency Planning: Prepare and/or oversee Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for Cheer Canada events and national team training camps.
- Decision Oversight: Provide final approval for on-field medical decisions and oversee the return-to-play clearance process in the event of significant injury.
- Centralized Medical Records Management: Maintain a secure, centralized digital system for tracking athlete medical records, injury reports, and clearance letters.
- Ensure all records are managed in strict accordance with Canadian privacy laws (PIPEDA) and Cheer Canada’s confidentiality protocols.
- Standardize reporting procedures to ensure longitudinal health tracking for National Team athletes.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Professional Status: Must be a Licensed Healthcare Professional in good standing with a provincial or territorial regulatory body (e.g., Physiotherapist, Certified Athletic Therapist, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician).
- Sport Medicine Expertise: Thorough knowledge of current medical practices in sport, including high-level understanding of concussion protocols and athletic safety.
- Safe Sport: Deep awareness of Cheer Canada’s Safe Sport policies and a commitment to athlete welfare.
- Administrative Skill: Experience in managing digital health records and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Professionalism: Awareness of personal and professional limitations and the ability to consult with specialized practitioners (e.g., Liaison Physicians) when necessary.
- Language: Bilingualism in French and English is a strong asset.
